The Costa Magica and Costa Fortuna were groundbreaking ships for Costa when they came out. As the line’s first 100,000-tonners, they were Italy’s biggest cruise ships at the time. With a nautically oriented décor, the Costa Fortuna celebrates the heritage of Italian passenger shipping. Artwork onboard includes a healthy dose of memorabilia, including vintage posters and collectibles.
Activities On Costa Fortuna
Combining spaces big and small, the Costa Fortuna offers grandeur and intimacy: The atrium soars nine decks high and features 26 historic models of Costa ships past and present, while the library doubles as a card room, and ironically has so few books that passengers are advised to bring their own! Discos bop until the wee hours of the night, and the nearby casino is conveniently located for gaming action. An expansive ballroom gets plenty of passengers up and dancing, while throughout the ship many other nooks and crannies offer a variety of retreats, from the internet center to the piano bar.
The main pool area is designed in an unusual amphitheater arrangement for soaking in the sun or showing oneself off. The forward pool has a big, Carnival-inspired waterslide, while an aft pool has a retractable glass roof for use in inclement weather.
The spa is spacious, but at 4,600 square feet not on a scale found aboard the more recent Costa ships. The design, however, is impressive—especially for the panoramic wall of glass. Nicely equipped gyms offer the latest in high-tech workout machines and there are fun-filled playrooms for kids as well.
Dining On Costa Fortuna
The Costa Fortuna has two main dining rooms serving dinner in two, traditional fixed seatings. These are named appropriately enough for the famous Italian liners Michelangelo and Raffaello, and are liberally decorated with artwork evoking the Golden Age of cruising from decades past.
An elegantly appointed, reservations-only alternative restaurant offers the finest in upscale dining in an atmosphere of Italian friezes and gold-and-china appointed place settings under a giant skylight.
The indoor/outdoor lido buffet is a bit more formal than aboard other ships with its neoclassical accents, but still a relaxing spot for a casual meal. An outdoor grill serves burgers, and in the evening, one area of the lido turns into a complimentary pizza café.
Cabins On Costa Fortuna
Cabins on the Costa Fortuna are warmly appointed, many with private balconies—62 percent of the outside accommodations. Even inside cabins are spacious, with plenty of closet space and drawers to satisfy the most incorrigible of over-packers.
Costa Fortuna belongs to Costa Cruises' Fortuna Class of cruise ships. This Costa ship features a specialty à la carte restaurant, a multitude of colorful bars and lounges, and more than 500 cabins and suites with a balcony.
