The 88,500-ton, 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend feels downright cozy compared to Carnival’s newer ships. Fun and festive, her decor celebrates legendary figures and places, with creatively designed public spaces that mix marble, tile mosaic, wood veneers, textured fabrics, copper and bronze, and all kinds of glass-lighting fixtures. The exciting, bordering-on-wacky décor definitely takes passengers far, far away from home.
Music and entertainment venues line Decks 2 and 3 from bow to stern and include a piano bar, jazz and karaoke club, sports bar, and an over-the-top two-story disco called Medusa’s Lair that’s decorated with giant Medusa heads, with snakelike hair and flashing eyes.
The three-level theater was designed to look like a 1920s movie house. A bustling lobby bar anchors the nine-deck atrium that takes its design inspiration from ancient Greece and the classical city of Rhodes.
Dine in the two-story, 1,300-seat formal dining room, the indoor-outdoor buffet restaurant for a little bit of everything or the more intimate and high-end (and extra-cost) American-style steakhouse high up at the top of the atrium—which unfortunately can be a little loud due to funnel vibrations and ambient atrium noise. There’s also a sushi bar, 24-hour pizza and café for fancy coffees.
In the well-stocked playroom, kids can experiment with sand art and a candy-making machine, or play on a handful of iMacs and PlayStations. A huge video arcade has dozens of machines, including air hockey and foosball.
The ocean-view multilevel gym is adjacent to the Greek-inspired spa, decorated with white-fluted columns and images of Greek gods. Carnival Legend has a total of four pools, several hot tubs and a three-deck-high spiral water slide. The adults-only Serenity deck area is a respite of padded chaise lounges, oversized umbrellas and a pair of large hot tubs sequestered from the fray.
Carnival Legend’s roomy standard cabins measure 185 square feet and offer relatively large bathrooms and a stocked, pay-as-you-go minifridge. There are robes for use during the cruise as well as extra-thick mattresses and bedding. Most cabins have a small sitting area with a sofa and coffee table.
Carnival Legend belongs to Carnival Cruise Lines' Spirit Class of cruise ships. This Carnival ship features an outdoor promenade deck that wraps around the ship, a specialty Steakhouse restaurant, a sliding glass dome that can cover the aft pool if needed, and more than 700 cabins and suites with a balcony. The ship is very family friendly, with the most popular family program in the cruise industry, and with outdoor fun such as the Twister waterslide. Adults will enjoy the ship's multitude of bars and lounges.
